The Virulent Virus of the CORONA family
42k deaths, 6.4lakhs quarantined, 1.4lakhs recovered; this was the statistics due to CORONA virus as on 1st April,2020.
Coronavirus comes from two words; corona meaning crown owing to its shape and the virus.
This is the 7th virus in the CORONA family and is named "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)" which causes a fatal disease called COVID-19. Although its origin is subject to controversies, as some say it was the outcome of unhygienic conditions in the animal market of Wuhan while others say it was unintentionally leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology while making a bio-weapon, but with no evidences so far stating the same.
It is contagious as it depends from one human to another. With flu like symptoms, the incubation period of the virus is 5-14 days. The virus severely affects the lower respiratory tract, mainly lungs. The recovery depends on the auto-immune system of the body which if able to produce antibodies can fight with the virus. None of the vaccinations and medication treatments are discovered which makes this virus deadly more than it actually is.
We all know that prevention is better than cure and when there is no cure, it is suggested to keep ourselves and our surroundings sanitized by washing hands frequently, wearing masks in public and preferring self-isolation. Only time will tell us the toll it takes on humankind and the mother earth. Hope we can come out of this pandemic healthier and stronger and applaud our doctors, nurses and health-workers who are working tirelessly when the Gods we spread out our hands to and open our hearts to have also closed their doors.
