What is your definition of Fashion?
Which outfit do you want to buy for your birthday this time? Which haircut do you want to have the next time you go to salon? or What kind of footwear you want to buy once the sale starts?
Well, I am sure the answer will be "whatever is on fashion then"!
While my definition of Fashion is not what brands and trends give us but what we feel comfortable in but majority of us don't think alike. Most of us try to customize our lifestyle not the way we like but what others may like. The general mindset of the people regarding fashion is "something which is latest and not outdated" and "something which if not followed may not be appreciated but will definitely be ridiculed". I suppose the manner we wear and the grace with which we carry the products we buy, exhibits our fashion sense.
Coming to the changing trends, the variety in products and creating brand image through advertisements and endorsements are all marketing strategies at the cost of environment. Even with birth of companies like H&M and Zara, fashion has shifted gears more drastically who produces non eco-friendly products to keep the manufacturing speed high and manufacturing cost low.
It is sad that we, being the victims of the marketing gimmick, judge others not by the qualities they possess but the products they use.
Interesting piece of trivia: Before 19th century, no bride in Christianity used to wear a white gown but after Queen Victoria wore one, it became a trend and now a tradition. We cannot even imagine a Christian wedding without the white gown with a big veil walking down the aisle.
Hope people start understanding the two simple concepts of life before its too late:
"Life is not about impressing others but expressing oneself".
"No harm in being a fashionista unless you don't hurt the Mother earth".
Ponder over your definition of fashion now!
