Beat the boredom during lock down

Are you feeling bored? Don't have anything interesting to do? Annoyed? And at this state of being, you start complaining about the consequences of lock down, ranting about the boredom, panicking about the pandemic which will lead you nowhere. Even watching every other news channel all the time, binge watching movies/TV series, playing card games is also not an effective way to overcome the stress.
Folks who think they are now restricted to outdoor sports and start whiling away their time by playing mobile/desktop games should know they are not killing the monotony but their valuable time.

So to beat the boredom and stay productive, let me share with you some tips that I have up my sleeve:

  1. Art & craft: Be it making miniature statues from clay, folder paper to create fine origami or designing a handmade birthday card, these artistic activities make you forget your problems momentarily, helps in lowering stress levels and creating mental clarity.
  2. Dance/Yoga/Exercise: Unleash the dancer/yogi in you. Regular practice of yoga or dance routine provides numerous physical and psychological benefits like improved body posture, mental balance and helps to become your best self.
  3. Music: Because of your tight schedule, meeting deadlines at work, hours of traffic, gym routine etc; you were not able to learn a musical instrument or even if you knew you were not able to practice it. If that's the case, then this is the perfect time.
  4. Sewing: How about refashioning old styles or giving a piece of fabric a stylish new design! If you take up sewing as your hobby, apart from the health benefits, you will find plenty of ways to make use of your newly acquired knowledge.
  5. Gardening: If you call yourself a nature lover, then prove it by growing saplings on small pots at your balcony if you don't have a big garden space.
  6. Books/Blogs: Reading books is always beneficial as it gives a different perspective to life, increases knowledge, fights depression and so on. If you are not an avid reader, start off with short stories. In case you are more into writing, then dive down to exploit your writing skills.
  7. Painting: Recall those school days when you used to participate in painting competitions, now you are not too old to start all over again. If the unavailability of the painting kit is an issue, then try sketching or doodling can be a good option.
  8. Studies: If you are a working professional, then enhance your knowledge in the domain you work to get better increment or promotion. If you are a student, then take this as a golden chance thinking you have bought extra time to finish your course books properly.
  9. Cooking: The benefits of cooking are myriad, it is a stress reliever, help build mastery in a skill and a way to express emotions through a different medium.
  10. Other activities: It includes learning to play the game of chess which develops problem solving skills, learning a new language which will be undoubtedly interesting, doing beauty treatments that you never get time for, and the list goes on.
I have shared some while there are plenty of other activities that you can do at your leisure. The only suggestion is Time is precious, don't waste it rather invest it.
